Topical products vary in effectiveness depending on the concentration of aluminum chloride. There have been reports of approximately 50% reduction in sweating after application in mild sufferers. Initially, the product is applied daily or less (2-3 times per week) so the duration of effect is short. However, over time there can be an increase in duration of effect after each application.

Regular antiperspirants cost around $5.00. Those with a higher strength can cost between $15 and $35. Some topical treatments are covered by some private drug plans.

Extra-strength preparations can cause skin irritation and discomfort. Depending on the concentration of aluminum chloride, effectiveness may be limited in more moderate Hyperhidrosis.
